I first read The Alchemist when I was nineteen. I didn’t get it. I mean, I understood the story. A shepherd boy travels from Spain to Egypt looking for treasure, has adventures along the way, and learns some lessons. Fine. Nice story. I moved on. Then I read it again at twenty-five. And something shifted.
